This study examined final oocyte maturation and ovulation of jack mackerel (Trachurus japonicus) treated with human chorionic gonadotropin( HCG) in the laboratory. Female fish with fully yolk-accumulated oocytes were selected by ovarian biopsy, performed just before the experiment. Oocytes at the migratory nucleus stage first appeared 24 hours after HCG injection. Between 48 and 60 hours, ovulated eggs were observed. Final oocyte maturation and ovulation occurred within 36 hours and at around 48 hours after HCG treatment, respectively.
