||Following the reorganization of the central government ministries, the Fisheries Research Agency was establis hed as a new, independent administrative organization by consolidating nine former National Fisheries Research Institutes (the oldest Institute established in 1929).

||The FRA takes over the duties of the Japan Marine Fishery Research Center (JAMARC) and the Japan Sea-Farming Association (JASFA).

||The FRA consolidates the National Salmon Resources Center (NASREC), another incorporated administrative agency.

||Organization of the FRA was reformed from nine Research Institutes and three Centers to nine Research Institutes and one Center, for increasing research effectiveness.

||The FRA was renamed as National Research and Development Agency, Fisheries Research Agency.

||The National Research and Development Agency, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA) was established through a merger of the Fisheries Research Agency and the National Fisheries University.
