History

April 1st, 2001 Following the reorganization of the central government ministries, the Fisheries Research Agency was establis hed as a new, independent administrative organization by consolidating nine former National Fisheries Research Institutes (the oldest Institute established in 1929).
October 1st, 2003 The FRA takes over the duties of the Japan Marine Fishery Research Center (JAMARC) and the Japan Sea-Farming Association (JASFA).
April 1st, 2006 The FRA consolidates the National Salmon Resources Center (NASREC), another incorporated administrative agency.
April 1st, 2011 Organization of the FRA was reformed from nine Research Institutes and three Centers to nine Research Institutes and one Center, for increasing research effectiveness.
April 1st, 2015 The FRA was renamed as National Research and Development Agency, Fisheries Research Agency.
April 1st, 2016 The National Research and Development Agency, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA) was established through a merger of the Fisheries Research Agency and the National Fisheries University.
